In the final seconds, sheer ecstasy broke out for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández forced home a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola in a state of despair and handed the temporary Chelsea manager a unforgettable moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch in class, making the memory of Fernández's crucial intervention one to warm the 40-year-old throughout his career.

A Glaring Contrast in Pedigree

On the home bench stood the generation's pre-eminent figure, a man with 40 trophies for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, was a one-time trainer at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and stepped up to make his first-team debut after being seconded from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.
