Ten individuals sentenced of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has ruled against ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced allegations of spreading untruths regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the husband and wife's age disparity of 24 years.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of up to eight months to the perpetrators. The full ruling has still to be made public.
A longstanding false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the United States against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the first lady's biological sex.
Their complaint states that Owens brushed aside any factual proof disproving her claim choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has frequently reiterated these assertions on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The two tied the knot in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
