Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Booers 'Not Genuine Fans'
Fulham Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Tension on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Vicario were informed afterwards "they can't be real Tottenham fans" by manager Thomas Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of scores in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth Premier League home defeat of 2025.
However the primary talking point was Fulham's next score when Vicario gave away possession well outside his box.
The goalkeeper came out to handle a high pass and took the ball towards the sideline.
However, instead of booting it into touch, the Italian spun and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by King.
The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at 36.6 yards.
Seconds later when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Spurs supporters jeered him.
Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 behind, and once more at the final whistle.
One of those jeering episodes truly angered Frank.
"It came to my attention a few of our supporters reportedly jeered the situation and jeered after, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"[They] cannot be real Spurs fans that do that. Alright booing following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are with one another moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had given Fulham a early advantage prior to Harry Wilson's strike – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an better second-half showing.
Former top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the next goal was "completely avoidable".
"I do appreciate the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I know the part the keeper is playing. He's a great team player, he's a true leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily involved in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game
Italy national team the keeper is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.
He stated following the game that he had to take the feedback.
"That goal was a error of mine, I take responsibility for that," he said.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a bad way. It was an more difficult mountain to climb."
He stated being booed "comes with football".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "We can't be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. Supporters have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It is on the team to remain increasingly calm, to concentrate on our own performance. We are lacking in composure and calmness to overturn outcomes. Today is a bad defeat and it is hard to accept."
'It Shocked Me No One Returned to the Line'
In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was not an easy goal for Wilson to score.
Actually it was the second most distant top division score of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally too came on Saturday.
Wilson stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open net to aim for.
10 seconds passed between Vicario exiting of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was five seconds after the clearance.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for a long time," he remarked.
"I was surprised not one of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them defended the goal, my interest lit up somewhat.
"Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a bit of additional opportunity. After that it was solely about attempting to make the right contact and get it towards goal. I felt a positive feeling, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Work Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank
Although Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an overall poor day for Tottenham to extend their home woes.
This was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint team statistic along with 1994 and two thousand and three.
They still have home games against Frank's former club the Bees and champions Liverpool to play prior to the end of the year.
Only one of those victories have come after the manager took over from his predecessor in the off-season.
"If you are behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.
"During in a bad spell, all aspects appears to go against you too – the opening was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from Vic.
"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have suffered another match. Every game has a single story, this game we lost in the first six minutes.
"We just need to keep working. The later period was much better and hopefully something we can utilize to learn."
Spurs have lost 4 consecutive home London derbies for the initial time in the top division.
And they are recording 9.5 attempts and three point two shots on target per game in the division – their poorest averages on record in a single season (since at least the 2003-04 season).
Former Fulham midfield player Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He's got take the stick," Murphy remarked. "He has accepted a high profile role at a huge team with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.
"The performances at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
