Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-part series created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat misconduct within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
The drama launched in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the new season will premiere.
The finale of series six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for further series.
However, the network announced on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
