Former Bengals and University of Texas Receiver Jordan Shipley Severely Injured in Farm Incident
Ex-University of Texas standout and professional football player Jordan Shipley is hospitalized after suffering severe burns in an incident on his ranch near his Texas hometown.
The Tragic Event
According to a family statement, Shipley was using a machine when it ignited. Although the 40-year-old was able to free himself, it was not before he sustained severe burns over a significant portion of his body. He was able to get to one of his workers, who transported him to a local hospital. He was then care-flighted to Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
“Please pray for full healing and no infections or other issues on his road to recovery,” wrote his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on Instagram.
Extent of Injuries
It has been reported that Shipley suffered full-thickness burns to more than 20% of his body. His brother noted that the primary risk at this stage is the threat of infection and lung complications.
A Look Back at Jordan Shipley's Career
Shipley received Associated Press All-America honors with the Longhorns in 2009. As a collegiate athlete, he amassed 248 receptions for over 3,000 receiving yards and 33 scores. He also ran track for the university.
Selected in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Bengals, he played for Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay over his professional career. He officially retired in 2014.
