European Football's Governing Body Opens Disciplinary Proceedings Against Chelsea's Pedro Neto Following Incident on Paris St-Germain Ball Boy.
European football's governing body has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea winger Pedro Neto after he knocked over a ball boy in the Champions League match against Paris St‑Germain.
The Portugal international, Pedro Neto, shoved the youngster in stoppage time of Wednesday's knockout stage first leg in Paris – where his team suffered a 5-2 – which caused him to fall off a chair.
This provoked an altercation between both sets of players.
Officials stated proceedings have been instigated against the player for "unsporting behaviour" as per its disciplinary regulations.
"The relevant committees will take a decision regarding this matter in due course," UEFA stated.
Neto expressed regret over his actions and blamed getting swept up "by the heat of the moment" as he tried to get back the ball.
"That is not who I am. Emotions were running high and I sincerely apologise. My shirt was given to him. I'm really sorry about it - an apology is necessary," Neto explained to broadcasters.
"My French is not very good, and [Portugal team-mate] Vitinha stepped in and told him that this isn't my normal behaviour.
"At the end he saw the funny side and I presented him with my jersey apologising repeatedly. He understood it was a mistake and was satisfied with the situation."
The London club welcome Paris St-Germain in the upcoming second leg in the second leg, following Newcastle's visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday in domestic competition.
