Alleged Harasser Inquired: 'But Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A woman accused with harassing Kate McCann apparently deposited her a recorded message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has persistently declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told call records and information obtained from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a genetic test over the past two years.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most widely reported investigations and is still unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
One voicemail, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm overweight and not pretty like Madeleine was, but I believe what I feel."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "What if there is a small chance that I am Madeleine? What then? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I just want to discover," the recording stated.
The jury was informed that via electronic messages, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, sent early photographs to her phone in a bid to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, a data specialist with law enforcement who compiled the information, told the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, as per the communication logs.
On October 9th, 2024, Gerry McCann answered a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "a wrong number."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I will continue and I will prove my claim."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg established a connection online with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' property in the county in December 2024.
Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out using communication app to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be treated respectfully in the months leading up to the appearance to Rothley, that area, in that winter.
The court was told correspondence between the two defendants, in last November, planning endeavoring to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We have to make a stand," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the visit to their home, Mrs Spragg dispatched a message which stated: "We find ourselves sat adjacent to the McCanns' home with our lights out resembling private investigators. I wanted to do this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings proceeds.
